DORCHESTER Town assistant-manager Trevor Senior insists the Magpies will take their Dorset Senior Cup quarter-final “seriously” at Wimborne Town tonight (7.45pm).

Wimborne, who share Dorchester’s nickname, play one division below Steve Thompson’s men and will be looking to emulate eighth-tier Heybridge Swifts, who knocked the county town side out of the FA Trophy with a 2-1 victory.

But Senior has his crosshairs locked on the only piece of cup silverware available to his side.

He told Echosport: “We’ll take it seriously. It’s the last cup that we’ve got a chance of winning. It’s always going to be a tough game.

“I believe there’s a few ex-Dorchester players in the team, they’ll want to put one over on us. We’ve got to make sure we do what we have done (recently).

“There’s a bit of resilience there and we need to keep that going.”

Senior referenced the Heybridge game as a disappointment, adding that his team will also have to improve on their attacking play after struggling to create chances during their 1-1 draw at Merthyr Town.

He said: “I was disappointed with the Heybridge Swifts game because I felt it was a game there to be won. It’s frustrating because we have shown what we can do against Kettering.

“If we did that against Heybridge we’d still be in the FA Trophy. Hopefully our forward players, the players that make things happen, can make an influence and get some goals, so that’s what we’ll be looking to do.”

Dorchester have several injury doubts for the contest, but have been boosted this week by the news that midfielder Ollie Griggs is preparing to return from a pubis bone problem.

Senior said: “Ollie is in light training, he’s still a little way away. Tom Bearwish was ill last week, he’s another player to come back in.

“Sam Lanahan and Phil Ormrod we’ll have to assess. They might come into contention, probably nearer the weekend I’d imagine. You can’t risk it if they’re not right, you can’t gamble on it.

“Luke Winsper’s still suffering a bit. He did a bit of light training on Tuesday but his knee’s still not right so he’s still being assessed by Emma (Tonkin, physio).

“I don’t think we can put a timescale on Luke at the moment.”

Bristol Rovers loanee Mo Baghdadi’s spell at the club has also come to an end, but boss Thompson revealed to Echosport that the Magpies are aiming to lengthen the teenager’s loan deal.

He said: “His loan deal is up and we’re looking to extend it. I’m going to have a good chat with Chris Hargreaves, the Bristol Rovers under-23 coach.

“I’ve been really pleased with Mo. He didn’t have his best game (on Saturday) but none of our attacking players did.”
