WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley has hailed Calvin Brooks’ performance as he played for more than 60 minutes against Chesham United last Saturday.

Mark Cooper was sent off for a tackle on Oran Swales in the 28th minute which prompted Molesley to take off striker James Hayter four minutes later and put on Brooks.

Molesley explained: “It was never the plan to bring him on that early.”

Brooks had trained for the first time with the squad on the Thursday and was only intended to play half an hour before the sending off happened.

Molesley said: “Calvin was raring to go which was great, we were being careful because he hasn’t played and he has only trained on Thursday with us for the first time so he was only down to play half an hour.”

When the red card happened Molesley asked Brooks if he could do 60 minutes and praised him for his subsequent performance.

Molesley explained: “It was more like 70 minutes with the time added, so he has got through and come on after being out for three weeks and got straight into the action and it was another great performance.”

Molesley feels his return is a huge bonus for the club. He said: ”We will have to see how he settles over the week but I think to get 60 or 70 minutes out of him is a massive plus for us.”

Brooks had not played for the Terras since the 2-0 home defeat to Frome Town in October after being out with a knee injury.

The Terras, who have had a much-needed midweek break, travel to Dunstable Town today (3pm).
