WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley was delighted with his team after they secured a 5-0 thrashing against Redditch United in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.

Brandon Goodship scored a hat-trick to secure Weymouth’s seventh win in the past nine games in all competitions.

Molesley said he felt: “Delighted, absolutely delighted. You can’t ask for more from the lads can you. Clean sheet and a good resounding home win so really pleased with the boys.”

The Terras were 2-0 up after 20 minutes thanks to an early brace from Goodship and could have added to their goals had Goodship and Callum Buckley not had efforts cleared off the line.

Molesley said: “We started well, I felt fairly relaxed because the boys started well could see we were on it. It was a nice flat pitch and we were moving the ball well so it was a good start from us.

“Two-nil is sometimes a dangerous scoreline and I felt that the last 15 minutes of the first-half we weren’t happy, we went into a little bit of a lull but having said that you are never going to dominate games for 90 minutes.”

Redditch did have spells where they pressured Weymouth but the defence held firm and Molesley praised their performance saying: “You look at our back five with Travers and I thought they were excellent today, they mopped up. They dealt with any kind of threat and they just nullified it.

“We rallied it well, they didn’t create too many chances against us so despite us not being as free flowing and attacking for that spell we were still strong and resolute.

“They have got some good players, dangerous players so to keep them at bay like the way we did I am really pleased.”

Molesley paid tribute to Goodship’s efforts, saying: “Obviously Brandon’s goals, people have got their money’s worth coming to watch that display today.”

Third-placed Weymouth are next in action against Dorchester Town on Boxing Day in the Ridgeway derby (3pm).
