WAREHAM RANGERS 4

DORCHESTER SPORTS 6

DORCHESTER Sports ended their season with a manic 6-4 victory over Wareham Rangers, with Will Turland scoring four goals in the first half in the Dorset Premier League.

It was a frenetic first period, which ended 5-3 to Dorchester Sports despite them having defender Jason Read, who made his return from a broken toe, in goal due to players being unavailable.

Turland scored his first of the game when he slotted in from a one-on-one with the Wareham goalkeeper after five minutes to put Sports 1-0 ahead.

However, poor defending from the away side allowed Wareham to score two quick goals and take a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.

Turland then ran rampant, scoring three more goals in the first half by 35 minutes with some sharp finishing, before the Beasley brothers combined with Richard heading in a corner from Jamie.

Wareham got a late goal to narrow the scores as the two sides went in with Sports leading 5-3 at the break.

In the second half, Wareham again dragged themselves closer following a free-kick into the Sports’ box which was not cleared and Wareham fired in on the hour mark to make it 5-4.

Steve Churchill finished the scoring after 70 minutes to seal the 6-4 win for Sports.

The last 20 minutes were considerably quieter as the heat and the pace of the game took its toll on the play.

The result sees Dorchester Sports finish sixth in the table on 59 points, matching their tally from last year.

Sports’ manager Ashley James said: “It was a crazy game to finish the season, it was a good one though.

When asked how it feels to finish the season, James said: “It is a relief, it is a relief, it is a nice feeling to finish. It has been a long, long season. It has been mentally tough, physically tough but it is nice to finish and have a nice break.

When asked if, given the nature of the match, there were mixed feelings about it, James said: “Our defending has not been very good the last few weeks and it was not again on Saturday unfortunately but we know we can always score goals.

“It is an area that we have got to work really hard on next year, the defending side of it.

“We score a lot of goals but if we keep conceding this many goals and as easy as we are conceding them we are not going to challenge the top teams.”
