AFTER a four-year absence from their spiritual home, Upwey’s Weymouth Carpets Direct Sunday League Championship side have returned from their travels to The Old Ship Inn in Upwey.

At a party to celebrate the unveiling of their new kit, kindly sponsored by Pam and Kevin from the Old Ship Inn, players both present and past re-enacted the original pose from the first Old Ship Inn team photo, taken almost 15 years ago.

Many veteran players, including retired long-term manager but still erstwhile player, Marko Millen, Paul Ryan, current team manager Martin Ryan, continental returnee Andy Worth, pubs’ league legend Steve Reynolds and Tom McAuley, returned to add to the nostalgia of the day.

Martin Ryan said: “We are delighted to be able to be based back in the village again. I would like to thank Kevin and Pam for their kind support helping us buy our new kit, and for the great atmosphere and food they generously provide after each of our games.”
