FOUR Magpies have pledged their allegiance to county town club for another year.
Ryan Moss, Kyle Critchell, Nathan Walker and stalwart Mark Jermyn – who is set to enter his 11th season with Dorchester – have all agreed new deals and were expected to put pen to paper last night.
The news comes less than a week after manager Ashley Vickers was handed the reins on a permanent basis.
And Vickers, whose side host Weston-super-Mare tomorrow (3pm), is delighted to have the quartet on board for next term.
He said: “The boys have all been making the right noises of late and it was just a case of getting round to sorting the contracts out.
“The lads have been a credit to the club and they are all hungry to play and do well.”
Jermyn, Moss and Walker have all agreed terms on one-year contracts while Critchell has been offered a two-year deal.
Looking ahead to tomorrow’s clash with the struggling Seagulls, who have gone 16 Blue Square South matches without a win, Vickers added: “They won’t be pushovers and they’ve picked up a couple of decent draws in the last month.
“They are a big side physically and are a threat from set-pieces, but our home form has been good since Christmas so we’re looking forward to the game.
“Last week’s game at Brain-tree didn’t go our way but the rub of the green tends to even itself out.
“Any result will take us to, or beyond, the 40-point mark. When we do get there it will be a great achievement for us. The pressure will then be off somewhat but we still want to finish as high as we can.”
Josh Llewellyn (hamstring) missed last Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Braintree but Vickers has been surprised with the striker’s recovery thus far.
He said: “Josh is making excellent progress so there’s a very slim chance of him making the bench. But whoever is in the team will give their all.”
Meanwhile, Vickers was impressed with the efforts of the Magpies’ fringe players in Tuesday night’s friendly win over Bournemouth Poppies.
He added: “Some of the players on the periphery of the starting line-up got game time and the likes of Harry Nod-well and Neil Martin did ever so well.
“We were 3-0 up at half-time and made a fair amount of changes in the second, giving an opportunity to Dan Spencer, Sam Filkins and Adam Taylor from the under-18s.
“We could’ve had a few more goals but full credit to Bournemouth as they had a go and it was a good game.”
