King left in limbo by big freeze

THE cold snap has left the Terras in limbo ahead of tomorrow’s 420-mile round trip to Barwell (3pm).

With the forecast predicting temperatures as low as minus four in the Leicestershire village tonight, Brendon King believes it is very unlikely the game will go ahead and is hoping a pitch inspection will take place as soon as possible.

The Weymouth boss said: “Having spoken to Barwell’s manager there appears very little chance it will be on but until we get confirmation then we are very much in limbo.

“We were going to travel up today and stay in a hotel overnight but that is not going to happen now so we will just have to wait and see.

“By all accounts they have had some really bad weather up there and with the temperature due to drop to minus four up that way again tonight I cannot see the pitch thawing out in time.

“The problem is, by rights, you cannot call it off until the morning of the match but at the end of the day a bit of common sense has to prevail.

“At the moment we are treating it as if it is off and are currently looking into trying to get a friendly sorted for tomorrow instead, but we will just have to see what is about.”

King went on to add: “If the game is off it also means we are going to have to travel up there during midweek at some point as there are no free weekends left available.

“It is a long way to go for an evening game and really these types of situations at this level of football need to be looked at.

“It is our longest trip of the season and instead of it being scheduled for this time of year when the weather is at its worst, it should be pencilled in at the start of the season or near the end.

“With some of the players having to organise time off work it really does make things very difficult.”

If the game does get the go-ahead then Ben Joyce is likely to make his competitive debut for the Terras.

King said: “Ben will go straight into the squad and there is a chance Mark Ford could travel too but he is more likely to be included next Tuesday when we go to Chippenham Town.”

* The first 100 supporters that sign up to the Terras’ 1,000 Season Ticket scheme for 2012/13 will be guaranteed the special offer price of £99.

The initiative was launched last month by the Weymouth board, who have offered to honour the reduced cost to everyone that purchases a season ticket as long as the target of 1,000 sales is met.
