BRENDON King has lodged a seven-day approach for Portland United ace Ashley Wells.
With Richard Marshallsay and Ryan McKechnie both due to join the Royal Marines at the end of the month, the Terras’ boss is still looking to add to his squad and believes the young full-back possesses bags of potential.
King, whose side will train today after their trip to Barwell was called off yesterday afternoon, told Echosport: “Ashley has been on my radar for a while and there is definitely something about him.
“Not only is he quick and tenacious but he also has good quality on the ball, and I have no doubts he can make the step up.
“We have put seven days in for him and we shall just have to see what comes of it but hopefully he will jump at the challenge.
“If he does then he will spend the remainder of season with the first team where I am sure he can do well.”
Ben Joyce and Mark Ford have been the latest additions to the Terras’ squad along with James Coutts, who has been drafted in for a second month from AFC Totton.
A similar loan move for Byron Napper is also still in the pipeline while Micky Greeno has joined the coaching staff.
King added: “Micky parted company with Portland recently and I am delighted he has come on board with us.
“Having played here before, he has a lot of passion for the club and also has great knowledge of the non-League game.
“Not only will he help Matt Groves out with the warm-up on match-days to help take a bit of the pressure off him, but he will also be someone I can bounce ideas off of in the dugout when Matt is out there playing.
“He is also a great person to have in the dressing room and I am sure the players will enjoy having him around.”
The Terras will return to action at Chippenham Town on Tuesday night before entertaining Banbury United (February 18), Chesham United (February 21) and Stourbridge (February 25) in a run of three successive home games. King added: “Having ended a run of disappointing results with that fantastic 2-1 win at Stourbridge, the two postponements we have had since could not have come at a worse time.
“It would have been nice to have had the opportunity to build on that victory straight away but instead we have to go to Chippenham now having not played for a fortnight.
“It is certainly not ideal but everyone else has suffered disruption too, and all we can do is take it on the chin and get on with it.
“After Tuesday, we then have three home games in succession where hopefully we can pick up some more points.
“All three of them will be difficult but we know if we can put a little run together now it would move us right up into mid-table and give us the opportunity to go on and enjoy the rest of the season without having to look over our shoulders.”
Weymouth currently sit seven points clear of the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division drop-zone with games in hand on five of the six teams below them.
