WEYMOUTH RESERVES 3 POOLE BOROUGH 2
DANNY Moore’s double helped Weymouth Reserves secure back-to-back wins for the first time this season.
The Terras’ hero produced two fine finishes as the hosts twice came from behind to extend their unbeaten run to four Magna Dorset Premier League outings.
And despite a shaky opening against Poole Borough, whose goals came via Jamie Mowlem and Bradley Gale, joint-manager Jake Richmond was delighted with his side’s response.
He said: “Poole have a new manager, Saturday was his first game in charge and their players were definitely up for it in the first 15 minutes or so.
“We weren’t and we were awful to be honest. We gave them too much time and space and they looked lively.
“We went behind after seven minutes and we had a couple more warnings after that.
“But we started to get into it and we found our composure, which we should have done from the first minute.
“We drew level on 31 minutes when Sean Zima crossed and Pete Jarvis headed home but we then cancelled each other out until half-time.
“We had to change our goalkeeper at half-time as Jamie Perry had a slight strain but we took the game to Poole and it was against the run of play that they made it 2-1.
“You started to wonder whether we would come back and although we had a goal disallowed three minutes later, we kept plugging away and Danny scored on the hour with a blistering volley from 22 yards.
“It was nothing more than we deserved and we were very much on top from then on. Luke Winsper missed a one-on-one and you began to think it would be one of those days. But a few minutes later, Sean squared for Matt Head and he rolled the ball off for Danny, who finished neatly in the bottom corner.”
With the first team’s trip to Barwell falling victim to the recent cold snap, Richmond paid tribute to the Bob Lucas Stadium groundstaff and the supporters who turned out on a chilly afternoon.
He added: “We had quite a few people there on Saturday and I would like to thank them for coming to watch. I’d also like to thank the groundsmen for working hard to get the game on.”
The reserves will be eyeing a third straight victory when they visit rock-bottom Sherborne Town this weekend.
Terras: Perry (Povall 46), Sharpe, Anstey, Vincent, Holland, Moore, Skelton (Morley 70), Jarvis, Head, Zima, Winsper (Harvey 78).
