BRIDPORT RESERVES 1

HAMWORTHY RECREATION 5

STEVE Crabb believes his side learned some valuable lessons from this mauling at the hands of reigning champions Hamworthy Recreation.

The philosophical boss thought the final scoreline slightly flattered the visitors but was also disappointed his Bridport side did not give a better account of themselves.

Crabb told Echosport: “Hamwor-thy are a very good side and if you make mistakes against them you get punished, and that is exactly what happened.

“Their first two goals both came from free-kicks given away in bad areas and then their third came just 30 seconds after we had missed a great opportunity to get back into the game.

“After the way we have been playing recently, it was disappointing to get beaten by such a margin but as long as the lads learn from it then that is all you can ask for.”

The Bees’ joint-manager went on to add: “They were the better side in the opening 15 minutes and they opened the scoring with a great volley.

“We then got into the game and forced their keeper into a couple of saves before we then gave away another free-kick on the edge of the box which deflected off the wall and went over Jamie Fry for the second.

“Sam Day then had an effort cleared off the line and from there they broke away and added a third to pretty much end the game.

“One of their lads then intercepted a poor back-pass to make it 4-0 before Ashley Clarke pulled one back with 15 minutes to go.

“Hamworthy then added their fifth late on with a shot that went in at the near post.”

Rec, whose goals came from James Osborne (2), Andrew Masson (2) and Jamie Moores, now sit second in the Magna Dorset Premier League table, while the Bees remain seventh.

Bees: Fry, Evans, Lock, Day, C Bulman, Cummings (Peart 55), McAllister (A Clarke 55), Steele, B Clarke, Scovell, Gale (Jones 55).
