BRENDON King believes the Terras are more than a match for anyone when they display the type of commitment they showed in last night’s thrilling draw against Chesham United.

Following four successive defeats, many people expected Weymouth to get ripped apart by the promotion-chasing Generals but the hosts dug in and produced a sterling display, which would have heralded three points had it not been for a couple of individual errors.

Boss King told Echosport: “What a difference a couple of days make.

“After the manner of the defeat against Arlesey Town on Saturday, the lads felt they owed the supporters one and I would like to think they repaid them last night.

“I told them I was after a response and I couldn’t have asked for much more.

“Chesham are a good side with two lively forwards that cause a lot of problems and but for a couple of incidents where we know we should have done better, I thought we handled them very well.

“Ben Gerring, in particular, was outstanding. When he comes through like that and wins headers it makes such a difference and with all 11 players working their socks off it just goes to show what we are capable of.

Before the game we would have been ecstatic with a point but now we feel we should have had all three and were a little unlucky right at the end when Ben’s header came back off a post.

“It is a massive point for us and when we go out and play like that we are a match for anyone in this league.

“The aim now is to try and maintain that level of performance through to the end of the season and if we do that we will be fine.”

Another player that impressed for the Terras was Stephen Reed, who had to leave straight after the game to drive back to Devon to start a night shift.

King went on to add: “When Reedy plays like that he is different class and too good for this league but it is about putting the work rate and effort in every game. If he starts doing that then there is no doubt he could play at a much higher level.”

The Terras now sit five points above the drop-zone in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division with a tricky trip to St Albans City their next assignment this coming Saturday.

King said: “I am so pleased for Nigel Biddlecombe (chairman) and everyone concerned at the club that we got a bit of pride back through this result but it is important we build on that now.

“St Albans are one of the best sides we have played and after beating them 3-1 earlier in the season, they are going to be out for revenge.

“However, if we go there and show the same type of passion and commitment as we showed last night, we will stand every chance of coming away with something.”

* Weymouth FC is running a supporters’ coach to St Albans City this Saturday.

It has been sponsored by Matthew Miller of Matts Gardening and will be leaving the Bob Lucas Stadium at 9am.
