ROBBIE Taylor is hoping to sign off in style tonight as his Magpies entertain Gosport Borough at the Avenue Stadium (7.45pm).

The reserve-team manager is stepping down from his role after this evening’s final match of the season and he is keen to see his side mark the occasion by securing a top-three finish in the Wyvern Premier League.

Only a 14-0 victory would see Dorchester overhaul second-placed Eastleigh while defeat could open the door for Borough to leapfrog the Magpies in third.

Describing his decision to hand over the reins, Taylor, who may return to the fold in 2013, said: “I will be stepping down and taking a break from it all.

“Tonight will be my last game and it would be nice to finish on a high, but I’m not giving up completely.

“I have spoken to chairman Shaun Hearn and first-team manager Phil Simkin and I might be back again after Christmas.

“With other commitments, including work, I can’t fit it all in and do it justice so I will take a step back and assess things after Christmas.

“I have really enjoyed it and the lads have been tremendous. Dave Kiteley and Stuart Griffiths have also been a big help and made life a lot easier.

“The lads have come on leaps and bounds this season and it’s been a hard decision to make. But I would like to think I will get involved again in some way after Christmas.

“Nothing has been decided about who is taking over from me but Dave (assistant-manager) would be the obvious choice.”

Taylor added: “Finishing fourth is the worst case scenario but the lads should still be proud of themselves even if we do finish fourth as I would’ve taken that at the start of the season.

“Eastleigh are pretty much guaranteed to finish second but a win or a draw tonight would give us third.

“We are looking forward to it and we have everyone available, bar Steve Walker through suspension.”

That means full-back George Kimber could feature after a head injury saw his afternoon come to an abrupt halt in the 5-0 victory at AFC Totton almost a fortnight ago.

Taylor said: “He has been given the all-clear so he could well be involved.”
