TREVOR Senior is eyeing a repeat performance from his charges as they attempt to clear the first hurdle in this season’s FA Vase campaign.

Bridport travel to Tavistock AFC tomorrow (3pm) in the first qualifying round of the competition and enter the tie in high spirits following last weekend’s 5-2 victory at Longwell Green – a win that lifted the Bees to second spot in the Toolstation Western Premier Division.

Boss Senior is therefore keen to continue the momentum at Langsford Park, but remains wary of the South West Peninsula Premier Division high-fliers, despite their recent FA Cup hammering at the hands of Gillingham Town.

He said: “They are third in their league but we have tried to find out a bit more about them.

“I spoke to Adrian Foster from Gillingham as they beat them 5-0 in the FA Cup a few weeks ago, but they must have caught Tavistock on a bad day.

“He couldn’t tell me much about them as they were not very good on the day but since then they seem to have picked up.

“I have also been talking to Antony Lynch, the Buckland manager, as they were in the same league last season. He said Tavistock should be strong this season and that they have a nice playing surface, which should be good for us.

“We are playing with confidence at the moment and if we play like we did last weekend and in the second half against Bitton we will give Tavistock a good game.

“It’s worth £500 if we win tomorrow and although the money is not quite as good as in the FA Cup, every little helps and we will be aiming to get some money in and have a decent cup run.

“We just have to get over that first hurdle and see how it goes.”

Bridport though, will be without star striker Ryan Dovell for tomorrow’s trip to Devon.

Senior added: “Ryan is unavailable tomorrow but I knew he would be when we signed him. So Matt Condliffe will go up front and Shane Evans will come in on the right.

“Dan Peart should also hopefully be available again.”

The winner of tomorrow’s clash will host either Keynsham Town or Sherborne Town in the next round.
