UPWEY & BROADWEY 2 STOURPAINE 0

NEW boys James Baker and Nathan Aston both found the net as Upwey & Broadwey recorded their first victory of the season in the Dorset Senior League.

Stourpaine made the brighter start at Redlands but a reshuffle at the interval soon saw the hosts take control to run out 2-0 winners.

Upwey boss Steve Reynolds said: “They must have been wondering at half-time how on earth they were not in front because for the first 20 minutes we were atrocious.

“They forced four or five corners in the opening couple of minutes and had it not been for Pete Jarvis coming off his line several times to make vital interceptions outside the box, we could well have found ourselves two or three down.

“In fact, I don’t think we created a single chance in the first half and it wasn’t until we switched things around at the break that we really began to get going.

“We switched Richard Frost back into the middle of midfield and brought on Darren Sam-ways and Sam Nichols and to be honest that was the making of us.

“Frosty and Darren were at the heart of everything after that and in the end we ran out deserved winners.”

Commenting on the goals, Reynolds added: “The first came just four minutes into the second half when good work from Darren and Ty Young found Nathan overlapping and when he crossed it into the box there was James to fire the ball home with a fantastic finish.

“We then continued pressing and as soon as the second went in there was only ever going to be one winner.

“This time, Frosty and Darren combined and when James’ shot was saved there was Nathan to fire home the rebound.

“It was great to see the new lads get on the scoresheet and considering we were without the likes of Clive Johnson, Ethan Devaney and Pete Bochonko it was a very good result.

“Having said that though, we still should have begun the game much better and if we do that too often then one day we are going to pay the price by giving away an irretrievable lead.

“We got away with starting slowly this time but next time it could really cost us.”

Upwey’s next game will see them entertain Witchampton United at Redlands on Saturday (3pm).
