BRIDPORT RESERVES  7
MERLEY COBHAM SPTS 0

GARY Bulman netted the perfect hat-trick as Bridport Reserves ran riot against Merley Cobham Sports at St Mary’s Field.

The talented midfielder grabbed the first three goals before Tristan Gale, Michael Hailu and substitute Jamie Morgan (2) completed the rout on what was a glorious afternoon for the home side.

Bees’ boss Robin Townsend, whose men now lie fifth in the Magna Dorset Premier League, said: “We played some pretty emphatic stuff at times in what was a very pleasing performance.

“We have started slowly in recent games but we managed to address that this time and flew out of the blocks pretty quick.

“We went 2-0 up in the first 15 minutes but they then had two or three chances to get right back in it.

“Had they taken them it could have turned out to be a completely different game but they didn’t and once we got the third it was always going to be difficult for them.

“By half-time we were five in front but to Merley’s credit they never gave up despite Jamie coming on in the second half and adding two more.

“We are a good footballing side and when we get the ball down and move it quickly we can cause teams a lot of problems. All we need to do now is believe in that a bit more and try and find some consistency.”

Commenting on Gary Bulman’s display, Townsend went on to add: “He grabbed one with his left, one with his right and a header so it was the perfect hat-trick.

“In fact, his opening goal was one of the best I have seen. We strung 15 passes together and pulled them all over the place before Gary applied a clinical finish.

“I was delighted for him afterwards and I was also pleased with Max Buckler, who dropped down from the first-team squad to get some minutes under his belt.

“He added that little bit of extra quality and really made us tick. “Jamie also came off the bench and took his goals well so all in all it was just a great all-round display.”

The Bees entertain Hamworthy United Reserves on Saturday (3pm) when Townsend will no doubt be after more of the same.

Bees: Fry, Stordy, Rowe, Clarke, C Bulman (Morgan 55), Buckler, G Bulman (Fleet 60), Day (Cummings 60), Hailu, Scovell, Gale.
