HOLT UNITED  2
CHICKERELL UNITED  4

HAT-TRICK hero Lee Pattison helped Chickerell United book a second-round date with Bridport in the Dorset Senior Cup.

The Chickens’ frontman was in top form at the weekend as the visitors bagged an impressive 4-2 victory at Magna Dorset Premier League rivals Holt United.

Midfielder Ross Connor also found the net for Maurice Welch’s men with a sublime chip from distance and the Chickerell boss is now relishing the opportunity to host the higher-ranked Bees in round two.

He said: “I’m pleased with the draw we’ve got and I look forward to it.

“Saturday was a very good performance and the boys were superb. On the whole we fully deserved the win as we were the better side.”

Further reflecting on Saturday’s success at Gaunts Common, Welch added: “We were 3-0 up at half-time and to be honest we missed a couple of chances to extend that lead.

“We were in total control but we knew they would come at us in the second half, which they did. They pushed an extra man forward and they managed to get it back to 3-2.

“I was thinking it would be tough from there on in but we managed to get a fourth with 10 minutes to go and at that point the game was dead.

“There was a spell at 3-2 when the ball bounced up and hit Josh Burton’s hand in the box and it could have been a penalty, but we could have been 5-0 up at half-time.

“At 3-0 you like to think you’ve put the game to bed but we knew they would have a go, which they did.

“They made a change, we didn’t deal with it and we got punished. It was difficult at 3-2 but the lads raised their game and got a fourth goal.

“That’s now three wins on the trot so we’re on a bit of a roll.”

The Chickens will look to extend their winning streak when they return to league action this Saturday with the visit of Blandford United.
