DAVE Kiteley has urged his Magpies to make the most of tonight’s opportunity to impress against Alton Town.

The Dorchester reserve-team boss is expecting his ranks to be boosted by several first-teamers as the club continues it preparations ahead of Saturday’s huge FA Cup home tie against Bury Town.

Jake Smeeton, Neil Martin, Jamie Symes and Jon Garcia are all in line to feature but it is also a big chance for the regular reserves to stake a claim too.

Speaking ahead of this evening’s Wyvern Challenge Cup clash at the Greene King IPA Stadium (7.45pm), Kiteley said: “I have had a message from Phil Simkin (first-team boss) and tonight we will be looking to get Jake Smeeton, Neil Martin, Jamie Symes and Jon Garcia involved, in a certain system as well.

“There is also a good possibility that Danny Way and Calvin Brooks could both return from injury as well so we could well have one or two different things going on.

“The lads coming down from the first team will want to prove they are a worthy of a place in the squad for Saturday’s massive FA Cup tie and it is also an opportunity for the others to put themselves in the window too.”

Kiteley went on to add: “When several first-team lads come down it presents a great opportunity for the younger ones to learn and develop alongside them, and I think the proof of that is there to be seen.

“Since Aston Butcher played alongside Arran Pugh a few weeks back he has been a completely different player.

“Having spoken to Maurice Welch, it appears his performances at Chickerell United have improved and his last game with us was probably his best to date.

“The fact that has happened since playing alongside Arran is no coincidence and it is a great example of just what the youngsters can get out of it.”
