COUNTY TOWN CHALLENGE: The Legends and The Wanabees (yellow)

WANABEES 2 LEGENDS 2 Wannabees win 5-4 on penalties THE Wannabees triumphed over the Legends in a charity match between Dorchester Town supporters at the Jewson Stadium.

The younger members of the Magpies' faithful claimed bragging rights over their older counterparts thanks to keeper Dan Floyd's save from Sean Tizzard's spot-kick in the decisive shoot-out.

The game started at a rampant pace with the Legends taking the lead after just 40 seconds.

A lack of concentration saw Stuart Hole take advantage and slot the ball into the corner.

The Legends kept pushing and probing with a few decent efforts while the Wanabees seemed to lack that killer ball in the final third of the pitch.

After 15 minutes the Legends saw a shot hacked off the line by Colin Judge to keep the deficit at one.

But then, midway through the first half, the men in black and white doubled their advantage thanks to another lapse in concentration by the youngsters.

A ball played over the top of the defence by Rob Hodder put Chris Gould through on goal and he placed his finish over Floyd and into the net.

The Wanabees looked disheartened and their opponents launched attack after attack. However, the young guns picked up steam towards the end of the half and went close through Dev Ward who saw his close range shot saved at the near post by Mark Stone.

The Legends thought they had scored a third only to see the goal ruled out by the linesman after a foul on the Wanabees' keeper.

The Wanabees started the second half stronger and saw chances go begging early on.

But their fitness was beginning to tell and on the hour mark Matt Barrett found himself in the box and placed an overhead kick into the far corner of the goal to leave Stone stranded.

The Wanabees went close to equalising with Chris Rawlings having a one-on-one saved before blazing a second opportunity over the bar, while Stone pulled off some great stops to prevent Barrett.

Then, in stoppage time, the ball was fed into the box and Callum Coleman tapped in from two yards to bring the scores level and take the game to penalties where Floyd's stop secured a dramatic comeback from the boys in yellow.

Both teams have so far raised in excess of £1,500 for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance fund.
