DORCHESTER Town have secured the signing of striker Jamie Mudge and arranged a lucrative pre-season friendly with FA Cup winners Portsmouth.

Twenty-five-year-old Mudge joins the Magpies on a one-year deal and becomes manager Shaun Brooks' fifth summer signing.

The former Exeter City man, who netted 31 goals in 33 Western Premier League games for Dawlish Town last season, hopes to add "that extra edge" to the county town side's attack.

After putting pen to paper, Mudge said: "I am delighted to now be a Dorchester Town player.

"After speaking to Shaun Brooks and hearing his plans for the season, I knew this was a club that I wanted to be a part of.

"The squad that's being assembled is a very good one and I hope I can add that extra edge in front of goal this season."

Magpies' assistant-manager Alex Browne is excited about the arrival of a man who scored well over 100 goals in a five-year stay at Tiverton Town.

He said: "Mudgey is still young but is an experienced and proven goalscorer at this level of football. Along with Ryan Moss he will make up an exciting and quality front line."

Meanwhile, the club have captured another coup - the visit of Premier League Portsmouth to the Jewson Stadium on Monday, July 21 (7.30pm).

Boss Harry Redknapp, a former Dorchester Town player, has promised to bring a "very strong" squad for the fixture in the county town as well as the FA Cup itself.

As with all of the Magpies' home friendly matches, season ticket holders will be able to watch the game for free.

Non season ticket holders will be charged normal prices, which are grandstand £10, terraces £9, OAPs and students £5.50, and under-16s £2.50.

Anyone wishing to purchase a season ticket can do so from the club office at a ten per cent discount. However, this special offer is only available until Monday.
