THE inaugural season of the Weymouth FC Football in the Community Girls' League is reaching an exciting climax with just two rounds of the weekly fixtures left to complete before the commencement of the play-offs.
The league has been an unprecedented success providing competitive football for eight teams of girls every Saturday at Weymouth Sports Club.
The competition, which is sponsored by Jake Richmond Ceramics and has received financial assistance from a group ofWeymouth FC supporters led by Nigel Cowan, has been running for ten weeks and is currently led by Tigers, who are managed by Carol Biggs.
Terras' football in the community officer Tim Davis said: "When I had the idea of running our own league I never thought it would be the success it has proved to be.
"The standard of football has been extremely high and each and every girl who has competed in the league has greatly improved.
"It is still anybody's guess who will eventually win the league and I am eagerly awaiting the play-offs.
"Six of the teams will now be competing in the Dorset Girls' League which commences in September where they will test their new found skills against opposition from all across the county."
