DAN McDonald’s second-half blockbuster helped Weyline turn the tables on Rodwell to move three points clear at the top of the Weymouth Sunday League Premiership.

Only goal difference separated the two teams at kick-off and by half-time it appeared a change at the top was on the cards as Rodwell raced into a 2-0 lead.

Marcus Simpson sprung the league leaders’ offside trap to open the scoring on nine minutes before Adam Billings added the second with a virtuoso effort, which saw him dance past several challenges before sliding the ball underneath beleaguered keeper James Parkes.

Having also lost the previous week against reigning champions Rendezvous, Weyline were in desperate need of a lift at the start of the second half and within three minutes they got what they were after when Danny Andrews halved the deficit following a fine pass from Lee Pattison.

For the first time, Rodwell were now looking nervous and on 56 minutes they conceded again.

This time Ethan Devaney provided the assist by dancing past Roger Boyd on the left and firing over a tantalising cross which Pattison bundled over the line.

It was now game on and after Billings was denied by Parkes, McDonald came up with a moment of magic which could prove a defining moment in the season.

There appeared to be little danger when the all-action midfielder gained possession around 25 yards out. Butas the Rodwell defence backed off, he let fly with an exocet missile that flew into the top right-hand corner.

It was a stunning strike and just moments later Devaney went on to wrap up the points with a simple tap-in as Weyline celebrated the most remarkable of comebacks.

Down in the Championship, Wellworthy continued their push for the title with a 5-1 victory over Dolphin.

The second-placed side went behind after 15 minutes but Liam Puckett’s equaliser just before the break turned the tide.

Joe Djeebet added a second on the hour before Matt Brown, Phil Lee and Dean Richards completed the scoring to leave the Wyke outfit just one point behind the table-topping Rock with two games in hand.

The league leaders beat Moby Dick’s 11-1 while Market House continued their fantastic run with a single-goal success over Belvedere.

Elsewhere, Old Castle beat Broadmayne 3-2, Station overcame Sailors Return 6-4 and Galaxy Lions edged out Clipper 3-2.
