Richardson pledges future to Bridport

APPROACH: Tom Richardson APPROACH: Tom Richardson

TOM Richardson has pledged his immediate future to Bridport following interest from Blackfield & Langley.

The Wessex Premier League outfit, who already boast former Dorchester Town player-boss Ashley Vickers, issued a seven-day approach for the forward last Sunday.

But Trevor Senior insists that Richardson is happy to remain at St Mary’s Field.

The Bees’ boss said: “I’ve spoken to him about it and he is happy to stay, which is good news.

“He started the season, and pre-season, in a blaze of glory and I thought he would go on and get 20 goals for us.

“He may still do that, he just needs a goal at the moment. Nothing seems to have been going for him of late.”

And Senior would certainly welcome a return to the scoresheet for the ex-Weymouth man when Bridport play host to Street tomorrow afternoon (3pm).

The latter sit one place and one point above the 14th-placed Bees, but it was the St Mary’s Field outfit who came out on top when the two sides last met.

The manager added: “If we win it would be the first time we’ve been out of the bottom five for ages. We will also still have a game in hand on Street so hopefully we can get a result tomorrow.

“We played them earlier in the season on the hottest day of the year while tomorrow could be the coldest.

“Hopefully it will go ahead but we’ll just have to wait and see. We can’t do anything about the weather so we have to prepare as normal.”

Bridport warmed-up for tomorrow’s Toolstation Western Premier Division encounter with a 2-0 friendly win against Chickerell United on Tuesday night.

Senior said: “It was a good workout and it was played in the right spirit.

“Chris Luke got his first goal for the club and he made the second for Jamie Morgan.

“All in all I was pleased as we played at a good tempo against a good side. We also kept a clean sheet and we could do with a few more of those in the league, as well as taking advantage at the other end.”

Shane Evans serves the last game of his suspension but Darren Lock is in contention after featuring in the midweek friendly.
