MONEYFIELDS RES 4

DORCHESTER Reserves edged a thrilling 5-4 encounter against Moneyfields at the Avenue.

It was a welcome victory but put an end to Robson’s side’s run of three consecutive clean sheets in emphatic style.

Moneyfields took just 25 minutes to get the opener after playing out from the back before James Guthrie squeezed between the Magpies defenders to give the visitors the lead.

The Moneys made it two just seven minutes later when some slack defended allowed the ball to be played in to James Guthrie inside the six-yard box who had the simple task of tapping home.

Jamie Rawlings stroked home just before half-time to set up what was a simply scintillating second half.

Despite the pitch breaking up beneath the player’s feet, it was Rawlings who grabbed the equaliser 15 minutes into the second half, before Owen Nicolson got his first of the game to give the Magpies a 3-2 lead.

The game was far from over at this point as a Harry Tumber double put Moneyfields back in the ascendency with just 15 minutes remaining.

But credit to the Magpies whose fight and determination was rewarded when Ollie Balmer curled home to equalise, before an Owen Nicolson volley from 30 yards wrapped up the win in a dramatic finale.

Speaking of the game, Rich Robson said: “From a coaching point of view I really wasn’t happy with our defensive display. We’ve come to expect certain things which we’ve set up over the season and it was a bit of a messy performance.

“But I guess from a neutrals perspective it was an amazing game to be watching, but neither team covered themselves in glory with their defensive displays.

“We had a chat after the game, and we’ve got ourselves into a decent position this season and we want to prove that it’s no fluke because we’ve worked hard to be here.

“I can’t be too harsh on them because everyone has an off game, but we’re going to work hard to make sure that before the game everyone is awake for it, everyone is ready and everyone takes what we do on the training into every game.”
