DORCHESTER Town boss Craig Laird has said his side may only need another three points to secure safety after their “massive” victory over Hayes & Yeading United.

The Magpies managed to grind out a 2-1 victory with goals from debutants Jake Mawford and Phil Ormrod, and the manager praised their impact on the team’s performance.

He said: “It was a massive win. We’re 10 points clear now and Hayes have now got to win their games in hand, plus one or two to get past us. It was a really important victory.

“If you look at the positive side that’s three wins in five which is a good turnaround but we just need to have that continuity to carry on picking up the points we need.

“Phil looked a good signing, and Jake is a good player, I know how good he is anyway and he will get better as we go on and hopefully be a long-term servant for Dorchester.

“They bring in that skillset and knowhow of how to play in our system.”

When asked about the positive response of his players after the Redditch defeat, Laird was honest about the players facing their responsibilities.

He said: “We had words with them after Saturday and words with them before this game so they know what’s expected of them. They’re representing Dorchester Town and that badge and the supporters, so they have to go out and give their best.

“But it’s another massive game on Saturday. With another three points I think we can call ourselves safe but that definitely isn’t the job done.

“We’ll prepare as we always do. We’ll train hard on Thursday night, and then we’ll speak to them on Saturday to keep their feet firmly on the ground and try and grind out another result.”
