DORCHESTER Town Reserves went top of the pile and kept their Wyvern League championship hopes alive after beating Basingstoke Town’s under-21 side at the Camrose on Thursday evening.
The Magpies reached the summit after overcoming fellow title-hopefuls Basingstoke, who had occupied top spot ahead of the encounter, thanks to a decisive spot-kick from Sam Pashen.
Pashen held his nerve in the opening period to slot home a first-half penalty, which proved to be the winner to keep Rich Robson’s men in the hunt for the crown.
The victory, Dorchester’s 10th league success this term, means the Magpies’ reserves are two points clear of Basingstoke with just one league game of their season remaining.
Basingstoke still hold the advantage however, having played a game less than the Avenue outfit.
Third-place Gosport Borough Reserves also cannot be ruled out. They are just five points back having played three games less than Dorchester.
Robson’s men will now turn their attentions to a Wyvern Challenge Cup semi-final against Petersfield Town Reserves at the Avenue on Thursday (7.45pm).
