BRISLINGTON 0

BRIDPORT recorded a 0-0 draw against Brislington in a typical end-of-season encounter in the Toolstation Western Premier Division.

With neither side having much to play for, it was never a game that was expected to be a classic, although both sides had opportunities to get the three points.

The Bees dominated the first period, creating two or three good opportunities, before the visitors came within a whisker of taking the lead.

Some excellent play saw the Brislington forward rounding keeper Jason Hutchins, before hitting his effort towards goal, only for Andy Martin to make an excellent clearance off the line to keep the scores level at the halftime break.

The visitors dominated play in the second half and forced several good saves from Hutchins, before Martin hit the post with a crossshot in the closing stages.

Speaking after the game, Bees’ boss Adam Fricker said the game was exactly what he expected.

He said: “It was a typical end-of-season game really.

“We created a good couple of chances in the first half which we should have done better with but I think a draw is probably a fair result.

“There were pleasing aspects for us, we’ve kept two clean sheets in the last two games, so we look quite solid which is good to see.”

End-of-season games are often dour affairs, and Fricker said that although their isn’t a lot to play for, he expects his players to prepare like they do for any other game.

He said: “Players are playing for places for next season and we’re trying to build momentum towards the end of the season we can take it into pre-season.

“It’s a difficult time of the season when you don’t have anything to play for and are playing another team who don’t have anything to play for as well.”
