Cougars win 5-4 in penalties

WEYMOUTH Cougars Under-16s won the Dorset League Cup after a 5-4 penalty-shootout victory over Westland Sports Under-16s.

Expectations of a close and exciting game were well rewarded and the Cougars were elated as Nial Turner scored the opening goal of the game, only for Westland Sports to equalise before half-time.

The pace of the game did not dwindle and both teams fought from one end of the pitch to the other, in sweltering conditions.

After the break, the Cougars took the lead once again as Tyler Chapman slotted the ball home, only for Westlands to respond once again to bring the score to 2-2.

Westland had the opportunity to get the winner but missed a penalty meaning the final would go to extra-time.

Both teams gave everything to bring the game to a conclusion but it wasn’t to be and the match was decided on penalties.

Nial Turner, Tom Homer, Rhys Cross and Riley Greenwood-Neate all found the net for the Cougars, before an Alex Grogan save from Westland’s penultimate attempt left Louis Wilkinson with the task of converting the winner which he did with ease.
