MIDFIELDER Sam Lanahan has praised the “professionalism” of Weymouth despite re-joining Dorchester Town.

Lanahan, 24, had several training sessions with Mark Molesley’s squad and featured for the Terras in their 2-1 pre-season friendly defeat to arch-rivals Yeovil Town.

And the goalscoring midfield man, who did a degree in sports science, was particularly impressed by the new approach used by Molesley and his backroom staff to evaluate player conditioning.

He said: “I learned quite a lot from them.

“Their professionalism is outstanding, giving individual feedback to players.

“I think that might be the way the game is going, with a lot of sports scientists involved.

“It’s starting to go down to non-League level. Mark’s getting that from Bournemouth, that’s a positive thing for the game. I can’t fault them at all.”

Lanahan told Echosport that his “loyalty is with Dorchester” and revealed that one of the reasons he trained with Weymouth in pre-season was to learn from Molesley.

“I liked the set-up and the way they treated me at pre-season was nice. Mark has had a very good career so I was curious to see what was going on over there and see how he could have improved me as a player.

“There were a few offers on the table from other clubs that I haven’t trained with or been to.

“Dorchester and Weymouth were the only clubs I spoke to, but I had previous with Dorchester and I stuck with them.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what we do. Craig (Laird, manager) seems a really nice, genuine bloke who wants to play football on the ground,” he said.

Asked what his aims were for the season Lanahan was tight-lipped, but he suggested a play-off place would be a “good position” for both Dorchester and Weymouth.

He said: “It’s quite hard to predict how each club is going to get on.

“It will come down to hard work. I would say the play-offs is a good position.”
