PORTLAND United boss Simon Browne has described facing Plymouth Parkway in the FA Cup extra-preliminary round as the “hardest draw” possible.

The Blues travel to Bolitho Park today (3pm) looking to bag a win that would see them pocket £1,500 in prize money and secure them a home draw in the next round.

But Browne told Echosport he is solely focused on the result in order to enjoy the potential rewards.

He said: “There’s more than a bit of prize money which helps clubs with their finances. It’s always a bonus but obviously we need to win the tie to win the prize money. And we’ve been given by far the hardest draw we could have asked for.

“I don’t think Plymouth Parkway could have been much harder. Maybe one of the Wessex League clubs like Sholing would have been equally as hard.

“We have got a home draw should we be fortunate enough to go through.

“There’s plenty of incentives there but ultimately we have got to try and get the job done.”

With the added romance of the FA Cup, Browne admits the occasion has that “extra little bit of mystery” about it.

“Hopefully we’ll go down there with a good attitude and see if we can come away with a result. It adds that extra little bit of mystery because it’s a cup game and it’ll be slightly different to what they’re used to,” he said.

Browne also provided an update on the situation of Jordan Tewkesbury, who has opted to join Lymington Town.

He said: “As far as I’m concerned he’s signed for Lymington. I wanted to have a look at him in a couple competitive games, but it wasn’t really much of a test.

“I believe he got a reasonable offer from Lymington and has followed that up.”

Sam Buckler sustained an ankle knock in Tuesday’s 6-1 win over Team Solent and could potentially face a late fitness test, while Plymouth Parkway could field two former Weymouth players in Ben Joyce and Shane Krac for the tie.
