BRIDPORT came away from an FA Cup away day to Cornwall with a 1-1 draw at St Austell.

The Bees took the lead on 15 minutes when Kameron Andrews beat the offside trap before rounding the goalkeeper and tucking home.

But just eight minutes later Mark Goldsworthy equalised from the spot after an infringement following a corner.

A draw is a positive result for Bridport and they will next contest a home replay on Wednesday night (7.45pm) at St Mary’s Field to settle the tie.

Bees’ boss Adam Fricker said the replay, which delays the start of their Toolstation Western League Premier Division campaign, was “a bit of a nuisance”.

He told Echosport: “It was frustrating to be fair. We had opportunities to win the game to be honest. I think in the cold light of day if we took them back to our place we would probably have taken it before the game.

“There were loads of positives and it was a great start to the season for us. The replay on Wednesday when we’re meant to be starting at Shepton, it’s a little bit of a nuisance.”

Explaining Andrews’ goal, Fricker said the midfielder had continued his good pre-season form.

“Kameron made a great run across the defence and he beat the offside trap, rounded the keeper and slotted it home. He’s had a great pre-season and carried on where he left off,” he said.

But Fricker was unhappy with St Austell’s alleged “bagdering” of the referee.

He said: “They had a couple of corners and they were badgering the referee. The next one that came in he gave a penalty. Hutchy went the right way but the most pleasing thing was the reaction. We had a proper go back at them.

“It was disappointing to concede the goal but it was pleasing how we reacted to conceding it. We looked solid throughout.”

Fricker revealed there is a slight concern over the fitness of midfielder Braeden Symes for Wednesday’s replay.

He said: “Braeden Symes came off with an ankle injury but he was alright in the morning and should be fine for Wednesday.”
