BALTI SPORTS 5

STURMINSTER NEWTON 0

BALTI Sports’ boss Marco Nott described his side’s 5-0 win over Sturminster Newton at Weymouth College in the Dorset Premier League as a “big relief”.

Braces from Danny Andrews and Ryan Dovell, plus a Liam Taylor strike, helped Balti preserve their place at the top of the table.

But of bigger satisfaction to Nott, who made a rare appearance in goal, was the clean sheet earned by his defenders having conceded several goals in recent matches.

He told Echosport: “It was great, I probably only had a couple of shots and a couple of crosses to deal with, we were really good.

“We played really good football from the off and it set the pace. They didn’t cause us too much trouble at all. It was a big relief. More so getting the clean sheet than a win really. To get that clean sheet is massive for us, it gives everyone a big boost.”

Reflecting on Sports’ goalscoring form, Nott believes his players “can score whenever we go forward”.

He said: “We feel like we can score whenever we go forward, we’re looking ruthless in front of goal. We’re going on the front foot and we’ve got so many options.

“We’re clinical and we’re averaging three or four goals a game, but the clean sheet gives us confidence and we can build on it.”

Nott reserved praise for captain Charlie Kenderdine, who the Balti boss labelled as the “unsung hero” on Saturday in his deep-lying central midfield role.

“Charlie was outstanding. He gives us a lot of assurance. He sweeps things up in front of him and gives it to Ethan who sets our attacking play up. He was probably our unsung hero on Saturday,” he said.

Talking through the goals, Nott was pleased with how side kept “breaking in central midfield”.

He said: “The first was from a Charlie Kenderdine corner. Ryan headed it into the top corner.

“The second was a really well-worked move. We kept breaking in central midfield. It opened up nicely for us and Danny, first-time, hit it straight in the far-bottom corner.

“It would be a bit harsh calling the third a cross, it was Liam Taylor again. This one, he got the ball on the right-hand side and it floated in the top corner. I don’t know how much he meant of it.

“Liam then crossed it for Danny Andrews, who hit it at the far post into the bottom corner.

“The last goal was another corner and it fell to Ryan Dovell at his feet and he just tapped it in.”
