PORTLAND United boss Simon Browne feels the Blues “owe” Amesbury Town a thrashing ahead of their Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division clash at Bonneymead Park tomorrow (3pm).

Amesbury were 5-2 victors when the two sides met at Grove

Corner in the League Cup, but since then Town have fallen to 21st place in the league standings, while Portland have climbed to 10th.

Both sides will contest this rearranged fixture after Amesbury called the game off while the Blues were in transit – something Browne hopes will be avoided this time.

He told Echosport: “We owe them one for the 5-2 and we

want to go up there and get three points. The last couple of weeks we have played some decent football.

“I don’t know what the conditions will be like. Hopefully it will be alright and the game will be on. (Last time) it all got a bit messy – I would have preferred a call earlier.”

Browne felt that the combination of conceding unnecessary goals and ill discipline had cost his side “five or six” points in recent weeks.

He said: “Some of the results have been a bit harsh, but that’s our fault for conceding goals and getting people sent off.

“We could probably be five or six points better off than we were, but we’re getting there.”

Sanchez Baker will miss the game as he recovers from a suspected ankle fracture, while Tom Bearwish is unavailable and Ross Doidge is suspended.

On Baker’s absence, Browne felt it presented players such as Dorchester Town and Eastleigh striker Bearwish with a chance to shine.

He said: “There’s a couple missing but that’s an opportunity for somebody else to come in and stake their claim for a starting berth.

“(Tom) is going to be with us for a couple of weeks. He played for the club last week with his dual registration. What I have seen so far is he’s a bright talent.

“It appears that he’s not fitting in Dorchester’s plans. It might help us with Sanchez out for a couple of weeks.”

Dorchester Sports and Balti Sports are in Dorset Senior Trophy third round action, hosting Blandford United and Westland Sports Reserves respectively (both 1.30pm).
