PUDDLETOWN will contest the Dorset Minor Cup Final against Shillingstone at Hamworthy's County Ground tomorrow (7.45pm).

The achievement is considered all the more remarkable the Villagers are enjoying their first season back in league competition.

Puddle have kept youth at the heart of their squad, with only goalkeeper Pete Lawrence, centre back Jon Palmer and forwards Chris Read and Iain Travers being over 19-years-old, and the majority only 16.

The Villagers warmed up for the final with an emphatic 5-2 win over Portesham with goals from Read, Josh Eveleigh, Kieran Knight, Connor Critchell and Charlie Clarke but the club expects a much harder game against Shillingstone, who have won both league games between the sides by the odd goal.

Chairman Barry Knight said: “A lot of work has been put into this team by the manager Steve Brown and my brother Dave who is his assistant.

"They both deserve a lot of credit for getting the young and older lads playing so well together.

"We go into the game as the underdogs but hope that our ability and fitness will give us the edge on the night. It will be a great experience for all of us.”

Puddletown are hugely indebted to Tony Johns - Bodycraft for his generous sponsorship and the Blue Vinney public house for great hospitality after home matches.
