UPWEY & BROADWEY  4
COFE MULLEN UTD 1

SAM Nichols inspired a superb second-half comeback as Upwey & Broadwey advanced into the third round of the Dorset Senior Trophy.

Lower-league Corfe Mullen United took a surprise lead at Redlands but after the break the hosts rediscovered their form to run in four fantastic goals with their tricky winger having a big hand in the first two.

Upwey boss Steve Reynolds told Echosport: “We went a goal down on the half-hour and I am sure Nick Gregg will hold his hands up and say that he have should done a bit better after the ball skimmed off the surface and went under his body.

“Corfe probably deserved that goal. They started with a lot more passion and desire than us and although we had a bit more possession we didn’t really do much with it.

“We were also not working hard enough without the ball but after a few harsh words at the break we came out a different team in the second half when the one league difference between the two sides really began to show.

“Sam Nichols broke down the right and lashed a shot into the top corner shortly after the restart before he was then tripped for a penalty on the hour, which allowed Charlie Kenderdine to put us 2-1 up.

“At that stage we knew we needed that third goal so with around 20 minutes to go we brought on Darren Samways and Ty Young, one after the other, and they both went on to complete the scoring with a goal apiece.

“Pete Bochonko and Ethan Devaney had given their defence the run around all afternoon and we just felt some fresh legs could really cause them some problems and so it proved.”

Upwey will now travel to fellow Dorset Senior League outfit Okeford United in round three and Reynolds is looking forward to the challenge. He added: “Okeford won 2-1 at Hamworthy United Reserves, which was a bit of a surprise, but we will know what to expect from them and will go there full of confidence.”
