WEYMOUTH 1 EXMOUTH 0

MATT Groves grabbed the winner for Weymouth in last night’s friendly victory over Exmouth at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

The Terras hit the woodwork several times and also saw a couple of efforts cleared off the line, but in the end had to settle for just the one goal, which Groves (pictured below) eventually scrambled home from close range with just 15 minutes remaining.

Terras’ boss Brendon King said: “It was a good workout and just what we needed to get rid of some of the rustiness.

“Exmouth were not a bad side and they made it difficult for us.

“They were very fit and their keeper made several good saves but I was pleased with our overall performance and it was ideal preparation for this Saturday’s league game at Gosport Borough.”

There was also a trialist in the Terras’ line-up yesterday evening in the form of Jake Vickers.

Commenting on the ex-Plymouth Argyle forward’s performance, King added: “He did well to be fair. He is only 16 but he is quite tall and produced some neat touches and flick-ons.

“It might not be something that happens right away but I have already spoken to him about coming down for pre-season so we will just see how it goes.

“He definitely showed glimpses but he just needs to bulk up a bit physically.”
