BEN Westhenry knocked more than a minute off the Under-20 course record at the Yeovilton 10k with a stunning time of 31.56mins, jumping to third in the UK men’s rankings for the age group.

On a very cold and windy day, Westhenry tucked in behind the top seniors, including training partner Charlie MacLean, as they pulled away from the rest of the group early on in the race.

The race was eventually won by Bristol’s Tom Merson with MacLean coming third and Westhenry fourth overall – he was top junior, nearly two minutes ahead of the next competitor.

Meanwhile, his younger sister Hannah won the girls’ mile fun run in the 12-14 year-old age group.

The day before, Hannah travelled to Lea Valley in North London to take part in their annual indoor pentathlon.

She started well with a personal best in the 60m hurdles (10.81secs) and later gained a best of 4.22m in the long jump.

The youngster also jumped a season’s best of 1.38m in the high jump and threw 6.74m in the shot put.

Her only disappointment was in the final event, the 800m, where after a long delay, she ran out of steam in the last half of the race and finished well outside her best in 3.01.1mins.

However, she still achieved a new pentathlon personal best of 2,101 points.

Hannah was also part of the Weymouth St Paul’s Harriers squad that took part in the first open athletics competition of the season in Bournemouth last week.

Caila Kirkpatrick was top performer in the under-13 girls’ section, collecting silver medals in the 100m (15.2secs) and 200m (31.7secs).

Phoebe Barnes set personal bests in all her events, coming third in her 100m heat (15.8secs), second in her 200m heat (33.7) and fifth in the long jump (3.67m).

Emily Fraher ran a best of 17 seconds in the 100m, came eighth in the 800m (3.15.6mins) and 13th in the long jump (3.05m).

Meanwhile, Sofia Voss came sixth in the shot put (5.21m), seventh in the Javelin (12.68m) and 17th in the long jump (2.40m).
