PORTLAND United could be just 90 minutes away from getting their hands on the Magna Dorset Premier League title.

They host Tintinhull at Grove Corner tomorrow (3pm) holding all the aces as Wincanton, who take on Merley Cobham Sports, try desperately to hang on to their coat tails.

Wincanton know they pretty much have to win, and win big, to stand any chance of finishing first.

And even if they do thrash Merley and the Blues were to slip-up it would still need a major capitulation from Portland for Wincanton to take over at the top.

The side currently in second, level on 77 points with the leaders but with an inferior goal difference, have to make the most of tomorrow as it is their last fixture of the campaign, while Portland still have four games to go.

“You can’t deny it looks good when you see the table,” said Blues boss Chris Wilson. “But it will only be over when we finish the job.

“You can let your mind wander on occasions but we’re just focussing on the next game.

“You always think what might happen but that’s human nature and I know it’s an old cliché but we’re taking it one game at a time.”

Alex Halloran misses the next three fixtures through suspension and Ryan McKechnie and Chris Reader are both unavailable. But Jimmy Dailey returns and Adam Linaker is expected to be passed fit.

Weymouth Reserves complete their home fixtures tomorrow when Parley Sports, the side they are vying with to finish sixth, visit the Bob Lucas Stadium (3pm).

Jake Richmond’s side may not have much left to play for this season but he has impressed on his men the need to keep going to the end – a policy some clubs don’t seem to have adopted.

Blandford and Wareham are two clubs that have called off fixtures towards the end of the campaign because they could not raise a side and Richmond made his views on the subject abundantly clear.

“It’s easy to let the season peter out but I’ve told the lads I want us to be more professional than that,” he said.

“We’ve got nothing to win but we are fielding teams unlike some of the clubs.

“It’s embarrassing and I think for this standard of football it’s pathetic.

“It’s not fair on the other teams who do fulfil their fixtures and teams like Blandford and Wareham have got to take a good look at themselves.”

If Weymouth can hold on to sixth – they lead Parley by two points with a game in hand – it would be an “absolutely fantastic achievement” as far as Richmond is concerned.

He hopes to have Tom Bell, Simon Crouch and Luke Winsper available again.

Also in the Premier League tomorrow, Bridport Reserves entertain Hamworthy Rec-reation and Chickerell United go to Wareham (both 3pm).

Tristan Gale netted twice for Bridport in their 4-2 defeat at Wincanton on Wednesday in a game manager Robin Town-send felt they were very unlucky not to get something out of.

* In the Dorset Senior League, Weymouth Sports host Piddletrenthide United tonight (6.30pm) and Upwey and Broadwey go to Okeford United tomorrow (3pm).
