ST GEORGE’S closed the gap on Division One frontrunners Dew-lish to a single point after see- ing off Martinstown as the leaders were held to a draw by Winfrith.

A 14-run victory for reigning champions St George’s also saw them extend their 100 per cent record with three matches in hand over Dewlish.

The in-form Sam Goodhew struck 36 in the Saints’ 111-5 before Rich Cole took 3-23 to limit their opponents to 97-7 in reply.

Lewis Chutter claimed figures of 3-29 as Dewlish held Winfrith to 92-8, however, the hosts scrambled a draw as the visitors, despite Tom Hewish blasting 42, couldn’t get the win.

Elsewhere, Cattistock comfortably overcame Cerne Valley thanks largely to Billy Wall-bridge’s 41.

It is nip and tuck at the top of Division Two with four teams – Bere Regis, Hazelbury Bryan, Churches United and Frampton – on eight points.

In the latest round of fixtures, Pete Macklin smashed an unbeaten 81 for Bere in their triumph against Charlton Down, while Chris Duerdoth hit 40 for Frampton, who saw off the challenge of Abbotsbury.

However, Frampton were brought back to earth when they felt the full force of Hazelbury Bryan’s Dave Cleave, who finished 85 not out in his side’s total of 159-2. Frampton were then skittled out for just 63.

Simon Browne’s 4-22 helped Churches United to a 19-run success over Puddletown.

Despite seeing Chris Rabjohns claim 7-26, Division Three pacesetters Plush made it six from six against Winfrith Sec-onds.

Before that, Winfrith had defeated Puddletown Reserves by 40 runs with a knock of 44 from Alex Tuck and three wickets for Paddy Selfe.

The Reserves are doing all they can to break their duck for the season but even 48 not out from Matt Barrett couldn’t prevent a 28-run reverse to Puddletown RFC.

In the Knockout Cup, Sam Goodhew’s 48 steered St George’s closer towards the final as they beat Cattistock by seven runs, Matt King with 3-22 for the winners.
