RUGBY PREVIEWS: Room to improve at Dorchester
DORCHESTER may have thrashed local rivals Weymouth last time out but they will be looking to move their game on again this weekend.
The Coburg Road side entertain Corsham in Southern Counties South (3pm) searching for a third win on the trot to keep up their 100 per cent record this season.
Head coach Martyn Peel has a near full strength squad to choose from and after the 59-0 demolition of Weymouth no-one will want to give up their place in the team right now.
But as good as that display was, assistant coach Gareth Biddle believes there is still room for improvement.
“So far the first XV have improved game by game and the expectation on them is to improve again on Saturday,” he said.
Scrum coach Lloyd Surcof is happy with how the Dorchester pack has gone so far and says the forwards are eager to test themselves against their Corsham counterparts.
He said: “We’re really pleased with how we’ve performed at the set-piece so far, so we’re up for taking on the Corsham pack.”
Still searching for their first point of the new campaign, Weymouth visit Walcot (3pm), who have started their campaign with a win and a defeat.
Like Dorchester, Dorset & Wilts Two South outfit Puddletown have tasted success in both their matches – they beat Poole 38-0 and Frome Thirds 10-5.
The Villagers host North Dorset Thirds tomorrow while Swanage & Wareham make the trip to Sherborne in Southern Counties South.
Dorchester Seconds will try to follow in the footsteps of their first-team tomorrow when they go to Monmouth Avenue to face Weymouth Seconds.
Like the firsts, the seconds have also won both their league games in Dorset & Wilts Two South and captain Tom Evans returns to the side, excited to lead the team in a local derby for the first time.
“These are great occasions and our aim is to keep playing the way we have so far this season,” he added. “Weymouth have a lovely pitch to play on so it should suit our game.”
