MAGPIES: Heritage revved up at the Avenue for charity
HERITAGE AUTOMOTIVE 4
A SPIRITED team of Dorchester Town supporters were no match for a well-organised Heritage Automotive XI in a special fund-raising match played at a windy Avenue Stadium.
Both teams gave their all from the start but, on a heavy pitch and with the wind in their faces in the first half, the Magpies began to feel the pace.
Thankful for the rolling substitution system, the Magpies battled on but with little reward for their efforts.
Fitness eventually paid off with Heritage Automotive running out as eventual winners, inflicting a 4-0 defeat on the Magpies, just as Basingstoke had done to the club’s first team the day before.
A spokesman said: “Many thanks go to both teams, and match referee Dan Milne, who entertained a vocal crowd for 90 minutes and helped raise £344 for the club – all of the players donated £5 each for the privilege of playing.”
Matthew McCormack, a technician working for Heritage Automotive, was named their man of the match, and Callum Coleman was given the same award for the Magpies.
Each received a bottle of champagne, supplied by Heritage Automotive.
After the game, it was confirmed that there are plans for the Magpies to host an end-of-season tournament.
