ALAN Walker-Harris believes that the Magpies must do more to show their fans they are capable of beating the drop this season.

The Dorchester Town keeper pulled no punches when describing his side’s performance at Weston-super-Mare, using Twitter to brand their display an “absolute disgrace”.

The Magpies were prevented from bouncing straight back from that 3-0 reverse yesterday when their fixture at Eastleigh was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

So it will now be Saturday’s home clash with Hayes & Yeading that provides Walker-Harris and his team-mates with their next chance to pick up some much-needed points.

“After you lose a game you need a reaction in the next one,” said Walker-Harris. “And I think we need a big one after the defeat at Weston.

“As players and as a team we have to stand up and show our supporters we are up for the fight.

“If you get something against teams like Eastleigh it’s a bonus, but with others, like Weston, you have always got more of a chance of getting all three points.

“We can’t just let games like those pass us by, we haven’t got that luxury.”

On his reaction following the loss to Weston, he added: “We didn’t turn up in the first half and then we let ourselves down massively in the second half.

“I couldn’t help walking away from that game frustrated and I went on Twitter afterwards to apologise to the fans because it wasn’t as if it was a game just down the road.

“People had to make a lot of effort to get there and the fans need to feel they are appreciated.

“They want to feel a part of the club and a part of what’s going on.”

Despite playing in a side that is currently propping up the Skrill South table, Walker-Harris is still quietly confident that the Magpies can climb to safety.

He continued: “We’ve picked up some points recently and people are a bit more optimistic.

“We’ve clawed back a few points over the teams above us so we’ve given ourselves half a chance.”

Last year was certainly an eventful one for Walker-Harris, who was released by Dorchester having come back from a broken leg, before returning in the close season to reclaim the number one jersey.

Now one of the senior heads in the squad, the experienced keeper has been one of manager Phil Simkin’s most consistent performers this term.
