AN Indoor Team Ironman at Mission Fitness in Weymouth has raised around £1,000 for the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.

Thirty-five people took part in the fundraiser which covered 112 miles on the bike, a 26.2-mile run on the treadmill and a sneakily thrown in Channel swim of 22 miles on the rowing machine.

The event proved a huge success with all the competitors enjoying the challenge.

Organiser Charmaine Bates told Echosport: “The teams of up to six people had one treadmill, one rower and a bike, and completed the distances in a relay format.

“The entrants were of all fitness levels from the super fit to those who do not work out and just wanted to help out the charity.

“Mark Kinder (gym manager) and I chose the Weldmar charity as we have both had close family members use their services and we wanted to give something back.”

Due to the Ironman’s success the gym on Mercery Road has decided to run a similar event next year.
