LUKE Burbidge believes the Terras possess the arsenal to shoot down the Generals this afternoon at the Bob Lucas Stadium (3pm).

The exciting winger has been one of Wey-mouth’s top performers this season and he is adamant the club can go on to enjoy a good second half to the campaign.

Burbidge told Echosport: “We got off to a flier at the start of the season, which was really good, but I am not really sure what happened after that.

“Although we have a good squad, we kept picking up injuries which didn’t help, and things just started going against us.

“Our confidence then got low and for whatever reason we struggled to get it back.

“It was certainly sad to see Brendon King and Matt Groves go because they brought me to the club and all the players had the utmost respect for them, but Jason Matthews has now come in and done a really good job.

“Results have started to pick up again and I see no reason why we cannot go on and enjoy a good second half to the season.”

The Terras have picked up two wins and a draw in their last four games, but they still have not taken points off any of the clubs in the Southern Premier Division’s current top five this season – a trend they are determined to buck later today.

Burbidge, who is fit to play against third-placed Chesham after recovering from illness, added: “They are definitely beatable.

“When we lost 2-1 to them at their place in the FA Trophy, we were awful in the first half but really should have gone on to get something in the second when we were by far the better team.

“If we play to the best of our ability this afternoon I see no reason why we cannot get something.”

Reflecting on recent performances, the 22-year-old went on to say: “The defeat against Poole on Boxing Day was disappointing but in the other three games I thought we did pretty well.

“Jason has got us playing a system where he wants us to get the ball out wide a bit more, and if we can start to do that and provide good crosses into the box, we have certainly got the strikers to get on the end of them.”

Burbidge has played in a number of positions this season but feels most comfortable as an out-and-out winger.

He said: “I would like to think there is still a lot more to come from me.

“I could not have wished for a better start when I arrived here in the summer. Everyone made me feel welcome and I felt like I was playing well.

“However, I then had a little dip in form after that.

“Whether that was down to confidence or things not going well for the team, I do not know, but I would like to think I have picked things up again now, and hopefully that can continue.”
