JASON Matthews is hoping to extend Jake Green’s loan deal by another month.

The Weymouth player-boss has made contact with Bristol Rovers over the matter and is now awaiting a response.

Matthews told Echosport: “Jake has done a great job for us.

“His performances have been good and he has given the side a bit of balance.

“I am hoping to keep him for another month and he is certainly happy to stay.

“We have sent an email to Bristol Rovers about it and now we are just waiting to hear back.”

Matthews is also keen to retain the services of Matt Cafer.

The young keeper was initially on loan with the Terras but he has since been released by Yeovil Town.

Matthews added: “Matt has now been let go by Yeovil and hopefully we can keep him.

“I have been very impressed with his attitude, which is superb, and we need a good number two as back up to myself.”

Since being unveiled as Brendon King’s permanent successor at the weekend, Matthews has also been on the lookout for an assistant-manager and hopes to have an update on that by the end of the week.

He continued: “It’s vital that I get the right person in who shares my beliefs and ideas on the game.

“I have two or three people in mind and I will be speaking to them over the next few days.”

The Terras are scheduled to host Tiverton Town tonight in the third round of the Red Insure Cup (7.45pm) but the game remains in doubt following the heavy rain at the weekend.

Matthews said: “If it’s on it will give me a chance to look at some of those that haven’t played that much over the last few weeks.

“Carl McClements will certainly get his opportunity and Mark Ford will get the chance to play up front in his preferred position after doing well for me in other roles.

“Matt Cafer and Nathan Walker will also be involved so we will be going into it with a fairly strong side.”

A pitch inspection is set to take place at the Bob Lucas Stadium this morning.
