RUGBY PREVIEWS: Away-day target set by Dorchester coach Peel
5:30am Saturday 11th January 2014 in Local Sport
HEAD coach Martyn Peel is targeting victories in Dorchester’s next two games in a bid to reignite his side’s season in Southern Counties South.
The county town team faces back-to-back away trips with Bath-based Walcot up today (2.15pm), followed by Corsham next week.
After last weekend’s weather put paid to nearly all local rugby fixtures, Dorchester, like so many other clubs, are eager to kick-start their second half of the campaign.
Despite not playing since early December, Peel’s men are boosted for tomorrow’s clash due to the fact that the Dorchester Seconds do not have a game this weekend.
And while the visitors have lost their last eight in the league and sit three places below their opponents in the table, Walcot go into the contest reeling from losing at home to rock-bottom Ivel Barbarians, who are still on minus points.
“There really isn’t anything between us and Walcot,” said Peel. “Before Christmas we had a run of games against the teams towards the top of the table and now we’ve got a couple of games which we can truly go after.
“The break has done us all good. We’ve gone away, cleared our heads and the lads look like they’ve come back really refreshed. The second team have a bye this weekend so we’ve got a full squad to select from and we’ve selected a group of players to take the game to Walcot.”
Bridport will fancy their chances of picking up a win when they visit struggling Salisbury Seconds in Dorset & Wilts One South, while Bridport Seconds are away to Swanage & Wareham Fourths in Dorset & Wilts Four (both 2.15pm).
In Dorset & Wilts Two South, Weymouth Seconds host Poole and Puddletown entertain Lytchett Minster (both 3pm). Swanage & Wareham welcome Corsham to Bestwall in Southern Counties South (2.15pm)
