CRICKET: Open training for Dorchester

Dorset Echo: SKIPPER: Dan Belt SKIPPER: Dan Belt

DORCHESTER will hold open training sessions next month in a bid to boost their ranks ahead of the summer.

First-team skipper Dan Belt is expecting to retain the services of all his players from last season, but there is room for youngsters to force their way into the reckoning.

They can impress Belt and the rest of the Dorchester hierarchy when indoor net sessions get under way in late February, although an exact start date is still to be confirmed.

The 2013 campaign was one to forget for Belt and his men as they finished last in the Dorset Premier League and played well below their best.

Belt, whose team will compete in the new Dorset Premier Two division, is looking forward to a much better summer this time around.

“We’ll be starting net sessions soon so hopefully we can build the squad back up and give it a good go this year,” he said.

“We struggled with squad numbers last year. I hope we have a decent squad to work with this year, which will help us out.

“The indoor sessions are going to be open so anyone looking to join the club can come along.”

He added: “Everyone has had a good couple of months off and it’s given us the chance to try and forget last season.

“As soon as the nets start we will look to try and cut out what we did wrong on and off the pitch then.”

Belt added that as things stand, the club is going to be running two teams in 2014.
