TERRAS’ chief Jason Matthews paid credit to his side’s second-half showing in tough conditions, as Weymouth turned their encounter at Burnham on its head to seal a comfortable 3-1 victory on Saturday.

“It was a great performance on an awful pitch,” the player-manager told Echosport.

“We were against the wind in the first-half and we couldn’t really play our passing game which was frustrating for the lads.

“But the second-half was really pleasing, we came out and pressed the ball really well which is always what I ask the lads to do.

We forced them into errors and I felt that once we got the equal-iser, we were always going to go on and win the game.”

He added: “I told the lads that we had to believe in ourselves and we got at them in the second-half and played in the right areas. We turned things around and it hurt the opposition.

“We have played better but, as far as dealing with the conditions is concerned, I would say that was up there with one of our top performances.

Matthews’ men were left to play against 10 men midway through the second period when Burnham’s Ryan Blake was adjudged to have raised his arm and made contact with Jake Green.

On the incident, Matthews added: “It all started from an offside decision, I tried to take a quick free-kick and the lad stood on the ball. As I turned my back it had all turned into a bit of a melee and Jake has gone down having been caught in the face.

“If anything, it gave them a lift and not us. They raised their game and we did well to deal with it and take control.

“The turning point was scoring an early goal in the second-half, it gave us the belief to drive on. With the wind going with us as well, we got the ball down and looked good and could have scored a few more."
