WEYMOUTH RESERVES 3

PARLEY SPORTS 2

WEYMOUTH Reserves produced a dramatic turnaround to stay on top of the Dorset Premier League and get their revenge on Parley Sports at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

With the Terras pegged back in the last minute against Parley last week, things looked bleak for Jake Richmond’s men when they went 2-0 down after 68 minutes.

But Weymouth hit back in quick time and secured a dramatic comeback thanks to goals from Sam Poole, Sean Zima and substitute Paul Ford.

Richmond told Echosport: “A slow start and a fast finish is probably the best way to describe it.

“They came out the blocks like lightning and were ahead early.

“They had a load of corners, hit the crossbar and had one cleared off the line, it was all in the same sustained attack and our heads were still back in the dressing room.

“We were chasing shadows and we were off the pace, they were right in our faces and it took us about 20 minutes to settle down and start playing a bit of football.”

Richmond’s charges went in a goal down at the break and although the Terras came out much better in the second period, Parley’s Tobias Holmes hit them on the counter-attack to put the visitors 2-0 up.

But the contest was turned on its head when Richmond pushed defender Poole further forward.

He added: “We put Sam up front to win the flicks for us because they were dominating in the air.

“He glanced a header from the tightest of angles in at the near post, it was brilliant and it gave us a bit of hope.”

Poole was then involved minutes later when he earned a free-kick on the edge of the area, allowing Seam Zima to smash the ball through a sea of bodies into the bottom corner to level things up.

Cue substitute Ford, who ran in at the far post and saw his initial shot blocked, but was alert on the follow up to put the ball home and net the game’s winning goal.

The Terras’ boss added: “I said to the lads after the game that the most pleasing thing was we never believed it was over, we kept fighting and battling and it won us three points.”

Terras: Park, Poole, J Will, Anstey, Butcher, G Will, Beals (Harvey 75), Asagba (Byatt 70), Zima, McClements, Pidgeley (Ford 60).
