DORCHESTER Town’s commercial chief insists the club’s board is doing everything in its powers to give Phil Simkin the best chance of getting the Magpies flying high again.

Simkin’s side may have only just finished their league campaign but the club’s preparations for next season are already well under way.

In fact, Heritage of Dorchester were unveiled as the Magpies’ main sponsor for 2014/15 before the final home match of this term against Gosport.

And commercial director Richard Coole believes the sponsorship arrangement struck with the Volkswagen dealership is proof of the club’s “substantial progress off the field”.

The club, looking to bounce back after their relegation from the Conference South, have also launched a rejuvenated Patrons’ Draw as well as the first team’s new home and away kits.

And, in order to attract more fans to home matches, under-16s will be given free entry to league fixtures as of next term.

“We all appreciate that it may not have filtered through to the fans just yet, but there’s a very good, positive feeling in the club at the moment and we’re certainly moving forwards behind the scenes,” said Coole.

“As a board, we are doing everything we can to give Phil Simkin the greatest possible chance to lead the club back to the Conference South in the coming seasons, while at the same time building the club for sustained, future growth.

“There is an awful lot going on behind the scenes that we hope fans will begin to see over the coming months.

“We are doing everything we possibly can, but of course we need fans to play their part too.”

On the deal with Heritage, which Coole reckons “has the potential to be the most lucrative in the club’s recent history”, he added: “The Heritage partnership is a great deal for the club, both in financial terms and in helping to raise the profile of the club across the region.

“The Heritage deal also gives us the safety and the platform to overhaul this year’s Patrons’ Draw and offer prizes of a much higher value than in previous seasons.”

Heritage have worked with Volkswagen to give the club a brand new Up! car which will be taken to a number of major events across the south of England.
