THE Weymouth Town Tennis Tournament has undergone a complete revamp in an attempt to get competitors back on court.

The competition, which is usually an annual event, was cancelled last year due to a lack of entrants.

This time around, sponsored by J Lawes Tennis, Thomas J William Hair Design and New Body Fitness, the tournament is scheduled to take place on the weekends of July 12-13 and 19-20, with a change of venues.

The men’s and mixed competitions are to be held at Weymouth Tennis Club and the women’s and junior events will take place at Melcombe Regis Tennis Club.

To enter, and for more information, contact tournament organiser Rhose Lawes on 771997 (evenings) or by emailing rhose@hotmail.co.uk The closing date for entries is Thursday, July 10.

Elsewhere, free tennis will once again be on offer at Wey Valley Tennis Club tomorrow as part of the Great British Tennis Weekend.

Family tennis and cardio tennis activities are set to take place from 10am-11.30am.

After the huge success of both the first and second weekends of the nationwide scheme, hopes are even higher going into the third event of the series.

Volunteers and coaches will be on hand to help out and both rackets and balls can be borrowed.
